As modern society becomes more international, and IT advances into more and more areas, the role of language is growing ever greater in importance. A proper understanding of the current status of languages used in diverse contemporary societies—languages that are themselves undergoing transformations in different ways—requires a consideration of language from a wider and more comprehensive perspective, with a flexibility that has not been customary in traditional methods of linguistic research.
This course seeks to address this requirement through comprehensive analysis of actual languages and the information that languages convey, from the various standpoints of language generation and evolution, comparative linguistics, and quantitative analysis of language data. The main objective of this course is to provide, through these endeavours, a high-level specialist training to postgraduate students, teachers involved in language education, and professionals in the media, publishing and advertising.
