Report of the General Assembly on 29 May 2009

To the whole members of the AAWH

We had the Founding General Assembly and the First Congress of the AAWH in Osaka at the end of this May. More than 150 historians who are specializing or interested in the world/global history joined ours events in spite of the swine flu, which shows our splendid success.

On the General Assembly held on 29th May, we have made some important decisions on the organizations and the activities of the AAWH. Here are most important of them.

1. We discussed the Statute that had been prepared by the Founding Meeting in Nankai University in May 2008. The main focuses of the discussion were on the definition of the region that the AAWH will cover, number of the elected officers and the membership fee. The Assembly entrusted the next Board of Directors to finalize the terminology of the Statute. The new Board of Directors discussed the matters and we have put the new Statute on the web site of the AAWH.

2. We have decided to increase the number of the members of the Board of Directors from five to seven including the President and elected the President and the Board of Directors for the coming three years.

3. Membership fee was decided.
a) Individual member: $15 for three years ($5 per year)
b) Institutional member: $150 for three years ($ 50 per year)

Those who have paid the fee will get the CD of the proceedings of the Congress held in Osaka. The way how to pay and get the CD will be informed from the Secretariat before long.

The Institutional fee was not decided by the General Assembly itself, but was decided by the Board of Directors held in Osaka just after the Assembly.

4. It was decided to hold the next Congress of the AAWH in Ewha Womans University in Korea in 2012. The exact date of the Congress will be informed from the University before long.

5. Secretariat
The Secretariat will remain in Osaka University for another year, when it will move to Ewha Womans University and the new Executive Secretary will be chosen by the Board of Directors.

6. It was agreed that the AAWH will be a member of the NOGWHISTO but will be the equal partner with WHA and ENIUGH.
