Manual for using the Husserl-Database

There are several ways to access the Husserl-Database. We offer three methods as follows:
  1. With a WWW-browser
  2. With a progressive ftp-programm
  3. With a basic ftp-programm of DOS-computer

(1) With a WWW-browser (at present the newest and the most comfortable way)
Please open the Husserl-Database Home Page(http://www.ipc.shizuoka.ac.jp/~jsshama/HUA-home.html) with WWW(World Wide Web)-browser (e.g. Mosaic, McWeb, Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.)and enter the Husserl-Database by following links.

(2) With a progressive ftp-programm
In the case you use a progressive ftp-programm (e.g. a ftp-programm of Chameleon, which is a set of TCP/IP applications for Windows 3.1., or Fetch, which is a ftp-programm for Mac), please type in each column as follows, and you will enter the HUA directory.
    Host: ftp.ipc.shizuoka.ac.jp
    User ID: anonymous
    Password: *************************(your e-mail addresss)
    Directory: /HUA
By using the above-mentioned WWW-browser, if you click the place "Anonymous-FTP server" of the Home Page of Shizuoka University (http://www.shizuoka.ac.jp/), then you will find the "HUA" directory among other directories. You can archieve the same result by typing "ftp://ftp.ipc.shizuoka.ac.jp/HUA" in "Open Location" of the WWW-browser.
(3) With a basic ftp-programm of DOS-computer
  1. Prepare the file transfer protocol "ftp" (a PC/TCP program for LAN connection).

  2. Load the software, then type:
      A:\>ftp ftp.ipc.shizuoka.ac.jp [return]

Next, you will be asked for your user code:
Userid for logging in on news.ipc.shizuoka.ac.jp?

    Type:
        ftp [return]

Then you will be asked for your password:
Password for logging in as ftp on news.ipc.shizuoka.ac.jp?

Please type here your e-mil address :
       ************************** [return]

(this will not appear on the screen) Then the following prompt will appear:
        ftp: news.ipc.shizuoka.ac.jp>

And you have entered the directory "anonymous ftp."

  3. If you type here:
        ftp>dir

all the registered directory names in anonymous ftp will appear. Among them will be found the directory "HUA," under which the Husserl-Database is registered. By typing:
        ftp>cd HUA

you can enter the directory of the Husserl-Database.

  4. When you type:
         ftp>dir

and get contents of the directory, you will find two sub-directories: "doc" (explanations, etc.) and "dat" (search results). Before going on to access the data in "dat," you should read the "readme.doc" (about the Husserl-Database) and the "rules.doc" (rules for using the Husserl-Database) in "doc." In order to access these files, please type:
          ftp>cd doc [return]

and you will find yourself with a list of document files with ".doc" at the end. If, for example, you type:
         ftp>get readme.doc [return]

Your computer will read this file.

  5. Then, to leave "ftp" temporarily, you should type:
         ftp>quit [return]

and read this file with an editor-application. In addition to "readme.doc" and "rules.doc," "manual.doc," "texas.doc," "register.doc," etc. are also included in the "doc" sub-directory, as is mentioned in "readme.doc." These can be accessed in the same way.

  6. On the other hand, if you wish to directly access search data, instead of "ftp>cd doc [return],"you should type:
        ftp>cd dat [return]

and you will enter the sub-directory "dat." (Or, by typing "ftp>cd .." from the sub-directory "doc," you can turn back to the upper directory, or, by typing "ftp>cd /" from a lower directory, you can turn back to the root directory "HUA.") When you type:
          ftp>dir [return]

you will find sub-directories for each volume with the names "hua_11", "hua_13," "hua_14," "hua_15," "hua_16." Then, if you will look into for exemple the volume 11, type:
         ftp>dir cd hua_11[return]

you can enter into the sub-directory of the voluem 11.

  7. If you type furthermore:
         ftp>dir [return]

    you will find files with the names "inhalt.dat", "list-t.dat", "list-a.dat", "list-e.dat","a.dat" ... "z.dat", "minder.dat", "anmerk.dat", "einleit.dat".

  8. Choose the file you need. For example, if you want to retrieve information concerning a word beginning with 'a,' type:
       ftp>get a.dat [return]

and the file will be read into your computer.

  9. To leave the program, type:
        ftp>quit [return]
