About Ghostly Gazetteer of Australia @This site, the Ghostly Gazetteer of Australia, is based on eGhostly Gazetteerf by D.W.A. Baker. eGhostly Gazetteerf is a collection which consists of more than 2600 handwritten cards of now lost Australian place names and 220 bibliographical cards. Professor Takao Fujikawa at Osaka University took pictures of all the cards, and then with his students transcribed them into a database. They produced this site from the database with the permission of D.W.A.Baker. In the process of transcription and the making of map-based database, Takao Fujikawa believes that they made mistakes. Please let him know if you find any mistake in this site. @D.W.A. Baker was a Reader in History at the Australian National University. His published works include the highly regarded biography Days of Wrath: a life of John Dunmore Lang (1985) and The Civilised Surveyor: Thomas Mitchell and the Australian Aborigines (1997). |
