2nd Semesters of Doctor’s courses

Entrance exams for the 2nd Semesters of Doctor’s courses of the Graduate School of Letters are divided into the following three classifications:

  • General Screening for Graduate Schools
  • Special Screening for Working People
  • Special Screening for International Graduate Students

The objective of the 2nd Semesters of Doctor’s courses is to cultivate specialized researchers whose future goal is to conduct research at universities or other various types of research institutions. Students obtain a doctoral degree upon completion. For admission, students in the 1st Semesters of Doctor’s courses must have already produced certain research results (such as a master’s thesis), demonstrating their aptitude, ability, and performance as researchers.

General Screening for Graduate Schools

Candidates who have already obtained a master’s degree or a professional degree, or those who are expected to obtain a degree, are eligible. Screenings will be conducted through written and oral examinations (including thesis defense).

Special Screening for Working People

Candidates who are already employed as specialized researchers and have at least three years of working experience, and who wish to enter the second-term doctoral program to obtain a doctoral degree, are eligible. In addition, candidates must have obtained a master’s degree at least three years ago and have a proven track record in their field of study. However, for those with excellent track records, applications from candidates without a master’s degree are sometimes accepted in special cases. Entrance exams will be conducted in the form of a research performance review and an oral exam related to subjects such as performance details or research plans.

Special Screening for International Graduate Students

Candidates who have already obtained a master’s degree or a professional degree, or those who are expected to obtain a degree, are eligible. Screenings will be conducted through written and oral examinations (including thesis defense).
